Everyone enjoyed a fabulous sunny day out on the canal with the Ethel Barge Community Trust. We boarded the barge called Pearl at 10am at Stanilands Marina after a bus journey there with Karl our driver from Sheffield City Council Transport. Our skipper was Dave and he was aided by the rest of the crew – John and Yvonne. We were allowed the opportunity to steer the barge, help with opening the locks and bridge. We were told to spot the giraffe and just caught a quick glimpse (photo included). All very exciting. We enjoyed the relaxing journey on the water to join the Goole and Leeds Canal before heading back again – a 5-hour trip. We took our own picnic and were amazed at the superb boat and all its facilities. Definitely need to do this again next year!
