Today we went to the English Institute of Sport for our annual sports day run by Motion, who provide our exercise classes every week. This year was different, as it included our friends from Twelve Trees Care Home. Most of us travelled by mini bus, and a few travelled by car with relatives and others met us there. We had a lovely welcome when we arrived, complete with refreshment tables. We started with some Motion style exercises, using the cheer pom-poms. We had an egg and spoon race. We did bean bag toss, to see who could throw a bean bags the furthest. We also had a pom-pom race. Then we got staff and relatives to have an egg and spoon race, which was highly competitive. We enjoyed delicious sandwiches for lunch, provided by the venue kitchen! After lunch, we had an award ceremony for the winners of the races, who received a medal and certificate, presented by the Lord and Lady Mayoress. Diana and Edith both won trophies for coming first. Everyone who participated also won a medal and certificate. Finally, all of the staff and volunteers received a certificate too. Afterwards, we had a more relaxed session where people could play ring toss, bowls, balloon tennis, or have a go on the rowing machines. We were pleased to meet Anthony Blackburn from “Golf in Society” and he spent a long time chatting to residents and staff. He will be in touch about organising golf sessions at the Home. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thank you to the relatives that attended and helped the day to be a great success.
